7 Truths About Traveling in the Rainy Season in Central America

Finally, your vacation leave is approved and you couldn’t be happier! But wait… you just checked your trusty weather app and it’s showing RAIN ALL DAY EVERY DAY. You feel crushed. Argh. Fear Not. We’ve been getting lots of questions lately about what the weather is like here in Panama during rainy season.

And the million dollar question: “Is it going to rain ALL day?”

Well the answer to that is, maybe, who knows! At one point, many years ago we had wished for a crystal ball to foresee the weather future. But these days we just go with the flow. Never has the weather stopped us surfing, and practicing yoga in the shala with rain pouring is the most magical sound ever.

It rarely rains all day. The mornings are usually dry so we plan our surf lessons at this time. When the afternoon rain comes, take advantage of this downtime by taking a siesta, reading, getting a massage, or relaxing in general. After all, you're on vacation and need time to recharge.

Most important - you can’t control the weather, so you’ll need to stay flexible. The rain doesn’t stop any of our activities or dampen our mood. So don’t let it hold you back from an experience of a lifetime.

Here's 7 Truths about Panama’s rainy season on the Pacific Coast:

1. The rainy season begins late April and ends around early December.

2. Temperatures are still a balmy 28-32 degrees Celsius / 82-90 Fahrenheit.

3. It does not rain ALL day EVERY day. Some days the sun shines like it didn't get the rainy season memo. Some days there are tropical showers. Bring a light rain jacket for afternoon strolls around town, or do like the locals do and just get wet!

4. You can still get a sweet tan (or a nasty burn!) during this season. The sun and its UV shines through the clouds.

5. Taking a siesta in a hammock with the sound of tropical rain is an experience for the soul. ️

6. The humidity here is Mother Nature's best moisturizer. Add some salt water and Vitamin D and you’ll come back looking and feeling 10 years younger. Yesssss

7. Vacationing in Santa Catalina is always going to be a mellow experience with low crowds, thanks to our distance from the airport only the adventurous venture here. Come by in the rainy season and our low crowds are even lower.

Who wants to follow the crowds to Europe this summer, and be shoulder to shoulder during Europe’s hottest summer yet… not us! But of course we are biased. But seriously, if you have any more questions about traveling to Panama during this season please don’t hesitate to ask.

P.S. We have space on our rainy season Surf & Yoga Retreats from May to November. Come and try this season out for yourself! Who knows, you may love it as much as we do. Check it out here >
